Understanding the culture of Cyprus

The history of Cyprus is very interesting. Cyprus is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. This is the third largest Mediterranean island, and started as the former British colony. Although more than 2 million tourists visit each year, almost nobody knows the real story behind the country. Understanding of history can appreciate life and culture of Cyprus, much more.

Cyprus has always been a land full of love and war. According to myth, the goddess Aphrodite was born within the country and has represented the beauty and love. If you think of the word “sex” you’ll see that we get the name of the Goddesses, and I thought it was when the word was true.

Aphrodite is actually why so many couples are flocking to the island. They believe that the island is one of the most romantic of them, and is especially appreciated when it comes to wedding destinations. The myth is that if you marry in Cyprus will have a happy and eternal marriage. Of course it is true or not is still unknown, but there is no doubt that the setting is very romantic.

Only during the last twenty years have found evidence of ancient Cyprus and what might have continued. According to research and find the first people to be in Cyprus was known as “Aetokremnos” and they lived mainly on the islands south of the country. It was about 10,000 years BC. There was also a performance that suggested there were two people short-lived on the east coast and west of the island too. However, not much on the two or how they died off.

The most interesting part of history in Cyprus is that there seems to be a discrepancy between the population and the oldest continuous population in BC 8200. It’s a mystery what happened to them and that is something that archaeologists want to know.

General History of Cyprus involves people captured on the island, shopping on the island and fighting for the island. In 1192, “Guy de Lusignan” a French knight, bought the island because he had recently lost his kingdom to the Templars.

It was not until 1960 that Cyprus has achieved a status of autonomy. At that time there were two populations of the happy life on the island and it was the Greeks and Turks. Flag of Cyprus has been developed in the same year, representing the two olive branches on a picture of the island, which is a symbol of peace. Before the independence of the island which was filled with violence and war.

However, peace did not last long, and it was the Turkish invasion of the island in 1970. They were not happy to live alongside the Greeks, and so have taken the law into their hands.
These days, however, Cyprus is a country much more peaceful. The days of the war is long and the culture and history of Cyprus is celebrated by the local population. The story is really interesting and useful if you plan to move to the country.
